Inner Circle – Marbella

  • Step Back in Time to Tetouan – Travel across the Straight of Gibraltar to North Africa where the Moroccan city of Tetouan is overlooks valleys of cypress, almond, orange and eucalyptus trees. Founded in 1307, Tetouan was constantly attacked by the Spanish. Toward the end of the 15th century, it became a refuge for the thousands of Muslims and Jews who were evicted from Spain. As a result, the Medina, or Old City, still bears the imprint of Andalusian culture.
  • Medieval Tour to Ronda – Set on a rocky cliff, Ronda is a city divided by a deep gorge called “El Tajo.” Three bridges span the divide – one Roman, one Moorish and the “New Bridge” (built in 18th century) used by Ernest Hemmingway as a setting for his book, “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” The oldest section of the city is located on one side of the Tajo and has medieval walls and Moorish gateways, baths and marketplaces. The newest section houses the oldest bullring in Spain, built in 1784.
  • Shopping in Mijas – You’ll have the opportunity to visit a typical Andalusian village perched high on a hillside with spectacular views of the sea. Whitewashed houses dot the landscape. Terraces overflow with geraniums. And donkey taxis line the central plaza. Mijas is a thriving arts and crafts community and many shops are bursting with local wares. Look for traditional hand-made ceramics and pewter, linen and wicker items, leatherwork, jewelry and paintings.
  • Gibraltar – Just an hour down the coast, lies Gibraltar, a place Romans, Phoenicians, Visigoths, Moors, Spanish and British all have occupied. Today, Gibraltar is British land in Spanish territory. Ride a cable car to the top of the famous Rock. Halfway up, you’ll see the 8th century Moorish castle that still serves as a prison. St. Michaels Cave, a hospital during World War II, is now used for classical concerts. And on the southernmost tip of is the Apes’ Den. According to legend, the British will keep Gibraltar as long as the apes remain.
  • Golf on Costa del Sol – Marbella is located in the heart of the famous Costa del Golf. More than 50 golf courses stretch between Malaga to the east and Sotogrande to the west, including the famous Valderrama Club, where the 1997 Ryder Cup was played.
